Commercial Mortgage Underwriter

The Credit Analysis & Adjudication Department has the primary responsibility of managing of managing credit analysis and adjudication process of the Bank, in addition to supervising loan related legal procedures and asset soundness. The main function of department is asset quality and the reduction of financial risks for the Bank. The team is looking for a Commercial Mortgage Underwriter, located at Head Office, to join the team. S/he will report directly to the Manager II, Credit Analysis & Adjudication and be responsible for underwriting and adjudication of new and existing commercial loans and administration.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Undertake the analysis, evaluation and underwriting of proposed commercial mortgage in accordance with policies and guidelines
  • Communicate with BDMs/Branches to obtain and analyze all relevant documents
  • Analyze financial data related to loan requests and relevant loan documents to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Responsible for conducting research on borrowers and industries and preparing in-depth loan package
  • Structure and recommend loan based on risk consideration and submit loans to appropriate approval authority
  • Assist senior underwriter in the preparation and submission of loan committee presentation
  • Perform periodic SOHO rating in accordance with the Bank’s policies and guidelines
  • Work closely with senior underwriters to monitor existing portfolio for early identification of potential problem
  • Perform and co-ordinate the department’s other assignments/projects

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required, preferably in Business or Finance or equivalent experience in financial services
  • 3-5 years of experience in commercial underwriting and adjudication in Canadian financial institution
  • Credit underwriting and adjudication experience
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting procedures
  • Experience working with internal auditors
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with internal/ external business partners and stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all areas of work
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Ability to work under pressure balancing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills with sound judgment and decision making ability
  • Collaborative and customer focused
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Power Point
