Senior Manager, Compliance (Head Office)

 

Shinhan Canada is looking to hire a Senior Manager, Compliance responsible for supporting the development and execution of activities and processes that support the overall governance of the Bank in accordance with OSFI Guideline E-13. In this role, the successful candidate will support and oversee the execution of activities designed to ensure Compliance program completeness and effectiveness.  In addition, s/he will facilitate the gathering and analysis of data to drive better practice management, policy development and data driven insights. This individual will also contribute to thought leadership around effective policies and enterprise wide compliance governance.

 

Responsibilities of the Position
  • Summarize the findings and outcomes of governance activities; present these findings to the Chief Compliance Officer

  • Assist with the execution of governance activities, preparation of governance reporting and dashboards

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of key risk indicators and analysis of trends for various elements of legislative compliance

  • Develop and execute a data-based approach to measuring key risk indicators, outlier analysis and trend/theme analysis

  • Identify opportunities to enhance the Governance methodology to promote efficiency, reduce redundancy and simplify existing processes

  • Develop policies and procedures that reflect deep understanding, interpretation and operationalization of regulations and legislation, both current and new

  • Maintain Governance related policies/guidelines including, managing the review and feedback process and recommending revisions as necessary to ensure all policies, procedures, and processes are high in quality, meet industry standards, and address changes in regulatory expectations, internal processes etc.

  • Work closely with Department Heads to review their departmental policies for compliance issues; and under the direction of the Head of the Department, with ongoing communication with the Chief Compliance Officer, support new policy development

  • Support the Privacy Officer’s mandate and core strategies, primarily in the area of Privacy Governance

  • Main current knowledge of compliance and privacy laws, regulations and guidance documents

  • Monitor and conduct reviews of proposed or new legislation changes, including any guidelines best practices, findings, tools to ensure that the Bank is apprised of any changes required. This would include conducting gap analysis to assess compliance to legislation


 

Skills & Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience, ideally in the areas of compliance in financial services

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Law or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and related experience required

  • MBA would be considered an asset

  • Experience in corporate policy writing and auditing preferred

  • Excellent research, investigative and organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including well developed listening and negotiation skills

  • Proven ability to write frameworks, policies, procedures, etc.

  • Strong stakeholder management and engagement, with ability to deal with conflicting points of view and to effect creative and responsive solutions

  • Proven experience in executive level reporting, with advanced analytics capability

  • Advanced understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management principles applicable to a financial institution
